C’garh Waqf Board Bans DJ, Fireworks At Dargahs
Violation of the directive will attract a fine of Rs 50,000 as well as seizure of the musical instruments, the board said: Reports
RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh State Waqf Board on Friday imposed a ban on DJ system, fireworks and dance performances at all dargahs (Sufi shrines), Urs festivals and Muslim religious occasions across the state, calling them ‘un-Islamic’.
Violation of the directive will attract a fine of Rs 50,000 as well as seizure of the musical instruments, the board said.
State Waqf Board chairman Dr. Salim Raj has intimated the new rules to all the divisional commissioners, district collectors and police appealing for strict implementation of the regulation.
The directive comes in the wake of a representation in this regard made to the board by Islamic socio-religious organization, Jamat Raza-e-Mustafa, on May 23.
The body noted that the growing trend of playing music, hiring professional dancers, and organizing un-Islamic events during Urs processions violates the tenets of the Quran and Hadith, defiling the spiritual sanctity of the Sufi shrines.
As per the new regulations, the traditional ritual of presenting the Sandal- Chadar must conclude by 11 pm.
The board has prohibited fireworks, dance performances and DJ playing during these processions.
The board said that the primary objective of Urs celebration is to promote national integration, communal harmony and peace.
Copies of the order have been forwarded to governor, chief minister, and home minister of Chhattisgarh for necessary administrative oversight.
