RAIPUR: In a first of its kind initiative, a dedicated modern cremation facility for pets and rescued animals has been established here.

The environment-friendly cremation facility for the pets and rescued animals has been set up in the ‘Animal Vatika Sanctuary’, a shelter home for the ailing pets and rescued animals located in Chandkhuri in Naya Raipur.

“The sole purpose of establishing the unit is to provide a dignified final resting place to the pets and other stray animals to combat the lack of structured facility with focus on hygiene”, co-founder of the Animal Vatika Sanctuary, Shankalp Gayadhani told this newspaper on Sunday.

The facility was inaugurated by noted veterinary expert Dr Padam Jain.

According to Mr Gayadhani, the pet lovers felt the necessity to establish a dedicated cremation facility for pets and rescued animals due to lack of any facility in Chhattisgarh to dispose of the deceased pets in a dignified manner.

“Pets are like family members of the pet lovers. They have to discard the carcass of the dead pets on the outskirts of the city which not only hurt their sentiments but also created environmental problems. Hence, the necessity for a dedicated cremation facility for the pets is felt by the animal lovers”, Mr. Gayadhani said.

The crematorium, installed at a cost of Rs 12.5 lakhs at the Animal Vatika Sanctuary, offers cremation and ash collection services, facilitating a dignified and ecologically safe farewell to the pets and rescued animals, he said.

According to him, around 250 ailing pets and rescued animals have been given shelter in the sanctuary and a medical team has been deployed at the Centre to provide round-the-clock services.
