Centre To Extend President Rule In Manipur
President's Rule had been imposed in Manipur on February 13, 2025 after former chief minister N Biren Singh resigned.

New Delhi: The Centre is all set to extend President’s Rule in Manipur for another six months starting August 13, 2025. A notice for introducing a statutory resolution on the matter has been submitted to the Rajya Sabha and has been admitted by the Chair.
The Upper House is yet to take up the resolution, which will be listed for discussion next week once time is allocated by the Business Advisory Committee.
The Rajya Sabha Secretariat stated: “Amit Shah, minister of home affairs and minister of cooperation, has given a notice of the following resolution which has been admitted: ‘That this House approves the continuance in force of the Proclamation dated 13 February, 2025 in respect of Manipur, issued under Article 356 of the Constitution by the President, for a further period of six months with effect from 13 August, 2025.’”
Meanwhile, the BJP has been making efforts to form a new government in the state. Meitei and Naga MLAs have been actively campaigning for over a month to push for the restoration of governance in the violence-hit state.

The state has been engulfed in ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities since May 2023, resulting in the deaths of at least 260 people and the displacement of thousands.
