Bhopal: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday began investigation into the alleged dowry death of Twisha Sharma by making on-the-spot enquiry in her in-law’s residence here.

The six-member CBI team which arrived in Bhopal late on Monday night visited the residence of retired district judge Giribala Singh, mom-in-law of Twisha and an accused in her death case, in Katara Hills here on Tuesday for enquiry.

The team then visited the Army Cantonment Kurukshetra Mess in the old Bhopal to meet Twisha’s family.

The CBI team took over the investigation from the police after arriving here and re-registered a case against Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh and her mom-in-law Giribala Singh under sections 80 (2) (punishment for dowry death), 85 (husband or his relative subjecting woman to cruelty), and 3 (5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Earlier on Monday night, the special investigation team (SIT) constituted by the police to probe the matter questioned Twisha’s husband, who is currently in their custody.

He reportedly told the SIT that Twisha, a former model and actor, was under ‘distress’ following termination of her pregnancy and reiterated that his family had given her Rs seven lakh during the course of their marriage.

The SIT will verify the authenticity of his claim, sources said.

The SIT team later took him to his residence in Katara Hills to reconstruct the crime scene.

The process lasted around two and half hours and it was video-graphed, a member of the SIT said.

All eyes are now on Wednesday’s scheduled hearing on the petitions filed by Twisha’s parents and the police in the Madhya Pradesh high court challenging the anticipatory bail, granted to Giribala Singh, by the lower court.

The Madhya Pradesh high court had earlier granted time to the retired judge to respond to the additional submission made in their petition by Twisha’s family and had posted the case for Wednesday.
