HYDERABAD: The BRS, as part of stepping up its offensive against the Congress, is expected to launch a campaign to pressure the state government to address long-pending demands of government employees. Over the past couple of weeks, the BRS had been very critical of the government on the issue of employees’ demands.
The issue of BRS taking up this subject was reportedly discussed at a meeting between party working president K.T. Rama Rao, and senior leader T. Harish Rao at the latter’s residence on Friday. Also at the meeting were former leaders of employees’ associations, retired officials, and representatives of various teachers' and employees' unions.
The meeting participants felt that the situation of government employees had deteriorated over the 18 months after the Congress came to power, and that the government failed to deliver on its pre-election promises to employees. Among the unfulfilled promises are clearing pending Dearness Allowances, implementing the Pay Revision Commission recommendations, and releasing pensions and retirement benefits.
Party sources said Rama Rao and Harish Rao assured those attending the meeting that as the principal opposition party, it was the duty of BRS to speak up for them. The party is expected to announce a detailed action plan on this matter, the sources said.
