Bomb Threat Targets Bachchan, Mayor’s Office
The sender claimed the attack would be revenge for the 1984 ‘Operation Blue Star’: Reports
MUMBAI: While the shooting incident involving actor Tiger Shroff has caused a stir in Mumbai, a bomb threat has further heightened concerns across the city and the film industry. A threat was issued to blow up Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde’s office, megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s home and the venue of singer Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming concert. Following the threats, security agencies and the Mumbai Police were placed on high alert.
According to the police, a bomb threat email was sent to the office of Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde. The message also mentioned Amitabh Bachchan’s Jalsa bungalow in Juhu, along with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) offices, several municipal schools and the venue for singer Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming concert, scheduled for November 27 at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse.
The sender claimed the attack would be revenge for the 1984 ‘Operation Blue Star’. The email also referred to the 1984 anti-Sikh violence and used the phrase “Khoon da badla khoon” (blood for blood), alleging that the threatened attacks were retaliation against people it accused of targeting the Sikh community.
The email warned of targeted attacks between October 31 and November 27. It claimed that an explosion would occur at 3.11 pm in the mayor’s office at the BMC headquarters.
According to the police, the email was also addressed to Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi. It threatened a grenade attack on a school on October 31 and an attack on Bachchan’s Juhu residence, Jalsa, between October 31 and November 27.
The message also named Dosanjh’s November 27 concert in the Mahalaxmi Racecourse area as a potential target.
After receiving the threatening email, teams from the Mumbai Police, the police dog squad and the bomb squad reached the BMC headquarters. The investigation teams inspected various rooms and searched several chambers, including the mayor’s and deputy mayor’s offices. The police found nothing suspicious during the search operation.
The Mumbai Police and bomb squad personnel also conducted extensive security sweeps at the other locations mentioned in the email.
Officials confirmed that no suspicious objects or explosive devices were detected during the checks. While the sender’s identity remains unverified, authorities are continuing to trace the source of the email to establish its credibility and ensure public safety.
“As a precautionary measure, instructions have been issued to significantly step up security and surveillance at the mayor’s office, the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, prominent educational institutions across the city and all those places mentioned in the email,” a police official said.
Unidentified assailants opened fire at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on October 18. Three suspects were arrested at Kota railway station in Rajasthan the following day in connection with the firing incident.
