Bomb Explodes Near Congress Legislature Party Leader’s Residence In Manipur
Blast suspected to have been caused by a grenade near Keisham Meghachandra Singh’s residence in Thoubal district
A bomb exploded near the residence of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Thursday evening, police said.
The blast occurred at around 8:15 pm near the gate or wall of his residence at Bishnunaha in Yairipok, in the Wangkhem Assembly constituency area. Police suspect unidentified miscreants threw an explosive device, possibly a grenade.
No one was injured in the incident, and Meghachandra was not present at the residence when the blast occurred.
Police reached the spot soon after the explosion, conducted a search operation and launched a preliminary investigation. Forensic examination of the site is underway.
The identity of those responsible and the motive behind the attack remain unknown. No group has claimed responsibility so far.
Congress leaders condemned the incident. All India Congress Committee in-charge of Manipur and MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka demanded urgent action, adequate security for the CLP leader and the arrest of those responsible.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the law-and-order situation in Manipur.
