BJP Man Among 8 Held for Killing CJP Worker’s Father in WB

Kolkata: Eight persons, including a BJP worker, were arrested by the police in Bankura of West Bengal, on Sunday for allegedly murdering a Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) supporter's father. The deceased, Sheikh Mohammad Mafik, was from Karishunda area at Indus in the district. His son, Sheikh Abdul Hafeez, is a CJP supporter.

He attended CJP agitation at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 19 and later went to check academic affairs at Karishunda Paschimara Primary School on August 13 following the CJP leadership's instructions. The headmaster, Kashinath Dey, however, asked him to come the next day.

At night, a group of armed men attacked Abdul’s house and beat him and Mafik. Abdul somehow managed to escape. Mafik was rushed with fatal injuries to Indus Block Primary Health Centre from where he was later shifted to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital after his condition worsened.

He succumbed to his injuries there on Saturday night. His wife, Hasina Begum, lodged an FIR at the Indus police station on Sunday. The cops arrested Astam Majhi, a local BJP worker, Shrikanta Majhi, Prashanta Ruidas, Rohit Majhi, Bablu Majhi, Santu Majhi, Tinku Keora and Sheikh Azad in the afternoon.
