BHOPAL: A local BJP leader was allegedly murdered in a Madhya Pradesh town, police said on Friday

The slain leader, Shyamlal Dhakad, was found lying in a pool of blood in a room in his house in Nahargarh area in Mandsaur district by his son on Friday morning, police said.

Preliminary investigation suggested that he was attacked by sharp-edged weapons on his head repeatedly by unidentified assailants, leading to his death, a senior district police officer said.

He was sleeping in a room built in the terrace of the house when he was attacked by the assailants, the police officer said.

However, the postmortem report could throw light on the exact cause of the death, he added.

Dhakad was the vice president of Budh mandal unit of the ruling BJP.

The area falls under Malhargarh Assembly constituency, represented by deputy chief minister Jagdish Devda.

Mr. Devda has ordered a thorough probe into the incident.

Several probe teams have been constituted by the police to crack the murder case by identifying the assailants.
