BJP Gears Up to Counter Oppn on SIR
The discussions came ahead of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc's symbolic proceedings to "impeach" the CEC and its November 1 rally at Ramlila Ground in Delhi.
New Delhi:The BJP prepared to sharpen its counter-offensive against the I.N.D.I.A. bloc’s campaign targeting the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with party president Nitin Nabin holding meetings with senior lea-ders and Union ministers.
At a meeting with Union ministers, Nabin asked party leaders to intensify their campaign against the Opposition's "narrative" on constitutional bodies, sources said. The discussions came ahead of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc's symbolic proceedings to "impeach" the CEC and its November 1 rally at Ramlila Ground in Delhi.
The BJP is pressing ahead with its "Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy" campaign, highlighting the importance of the SIR. Nabin, who addressed a rally in Delhi on Wednesday, is scheduled to address another in Rohtak on November 1. Union home minister Amit Shah is likely to address a rally in Hyderabad on November 2.
Earlier in the day, Nabin met the party's national general secretaries to assess efforts to counter the Opposition's campaign. Leaders also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming Assembly elections in five states and discussed organisational matters, sources said.
"Today, at the BJP headquarters, I held a meeting with the national general secretaries and had a detailed discussion on the upcoming action plan and various matters related to the organisation," Nabin posted on X.
Union ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Piyush Goyal, Mansukh Mandaviya, Ashwini Vaishnaw and Kiren Rijiju attended the subsequent meeting, along with some national office-bearers.
The party is also reaching out to prominent people from different fields to explain the importance of the electoral roll revision.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Rijiju dismissed the opposition's mock Parliament as having no significance and said opposition leaders should instead participate in debates in Parliament.
Separately, a civil society group, Citizen for Democracy, is organising a mock Parliament on "Democracy Vs Anarchy" in the capital on October 30.
Nabin also addressed the newly reconstituted national executive of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, urging it to expand youth outreach and engagement. The meeting discussed organisational matters, upcoming activities and the role of young people in strengthening the nation.
