BJP Accuses Uddhav of Rs 3 lakh crore Corruption in BMC
The Mumbai BJP chief’s allegations came following the launch of the manifesto of Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray led MNS at Shiv Sena Bhavan on Sunday.
Mumbai: The Mumbai BJP on Sunday accused the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) of corruption exceeding Rs three lakh crore during its 25-year rule in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), terming it the “biggest corruption scam in the country”. Mumbai BJP chief and MLA Ameet Satam released an ‘Aarop Patra’ (chargesheet) alleging large-scale irregularities in civic works, including roads, Covid procurement, education, water supply, flood control, garbage transport and public transport.
The Mumbai BJP chief’s allegations came following the launch of the manifesto of Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray led MNS at Shiv Sena Bhavan on Sunday.
Raising the issues of basic amenities including pothole free roads in the country’s financial capital, Mr. Satam alleged that despite spending thousands of crores, people of Mumbai have not got good and pothole free roads during the Shiv Sena’s regime in civic body in two and half decades. “Despite spending Rs 21,000 crore, Mumbaikars still do not have pothole-free roads. For the last 25 years, the Thackeray led party (undivided) has looted public money through irregularities in the tendering process, awarding contracts at inflated rates, and granting tenders to blacklisted companies,” he alleged.
Pointing out the corruption during the Covid -19 pandemic, the Mumbai BJP chief said that the contracts were given to Lifeline Hospital Management Services using forged documents. Sujit Patkar, a close associate of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, was linked to the case and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a money-laundering case against him. Alleging the COVID-related scam of worth Rs 100 crore, he said, “The body bags priced at Rs 1,500 were procured by the civic body at an inflated cost of Rs 6,721 each, while irregularities worth Rs 320 crore were reported in the procurement of oxygen plants. Despite the heavy expenditure, Maharashtra witnessed a higher COVID death rate,” the BJP legislator said.
Terming Uddhav Thackeray’s love for the Marathi language as fake, the BJP leader claimed that data obtained under the RTI Act from the BMC shows a 70 per cent decline in the number of Marathi students. “114 Marathi-medium schools in Mumbai have shut down over the past ten years, leaving only 254 such schools currently operational,” he said.
In a response to a query, the Mumbai BJP chief said that if Uddhav Thackeray led party’s mayor will be elected in the BMC, Mumbai will become Pakistan.
