Assam Rifles Jawan Killed, Four Injured In Suspected Militant Attack

Guwahati: An Assam Rifles patrol team was ambushed by suspected militants of the NSCN-K-YA (Yung Aung faction) near Nampong Nallah along the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district early on Tuesday morning, in which one personnel was killed and four got injured.
The incident occurred at around 6.30 am. under Nampong Circle when the patrol was Security sources said that militants suddenly opened fire on the team of the Assam Rifle.
The deceased has been identified as Havildar Jankhokai Kuki, 42. Security forces immediately launched search and area-domination operations in the region, intensified surveillance along the border and adjoining forested areas, and stepped up patrolling to track down those responsible and secure the stretch.

The ambush comes amid heightened security measures linked to India’s ongoing project to fence the entire 1,643-km India-Myanmar border. Fencing and road works are under way in parts of Changlang and neighbouring districts to improve surveillance, prevent free movement of militants, illegal migration, arms smuggling and narcotics trafficking across the historically porous frontier.
It is significant that NSCN-K-YA has previously opposed the fencing, describing it as an “illegal” attempt to seal traditional Naga areas. The group claimed responsibility for an earlier attack in March 2026 on Assam Rifles personnel associated with fencing work along the Namgoi-Pangsau road in the same district. The Tirap-Changlang-Longding belt has long been a sensitive corridor for insurgent activity with cross-border terrorism.
Informing that a massive counter-offensive has also been launched by the security forces, security sources said that the Assam Rifles and other forces remain on high alert along the border.
