GUWAHATI: In what was suspected to be a handiwork of suspected Naga armed rebel groups, at leas    t three #AssamRifles personnel were killed and several others sustained injuries after an improvised explosive device (IED) struck a convoy in Nagaland's Chumoukedima district on Monday.

According to initial reports, unidentified miscreants targeted the moving Assam Rifles convoy by hurling an IED, resulting in a powerful explosion. Three personnel were killed on the spot, while several others were injured. The injured have been shifted for medical treatment, although the condition of those injured has not yet been disclosed officially.

Defence sources at Kohima also confirmed the incident but said that they are yet to ascertain the casualty. Pointing out that they would come out with detailed statement on the incident soon he said that some unidentified armed rebels targeted a convoy of Assam Rifle. Informing that a combing operation have been launched in the area soon after the incident, security sources said that the blast occurred near Sukhovi (Shoxuvi) village, along the road leading to the Assam Rifles Training Centre.

The injured personnel were rushed to a nearby medical facility. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a massive search and combing operation to track down those responsible. No insurgent group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

This is the second attack on the Assam Rifles in the Northeast region in less than a week.
