Assam CM Denies Electoral Roll Anomalies, Says Notices to ‘Miya’ Will Continue
Sarma acknowledged that notices related to the Special Revision and evictions would be issued, claiming it is necessary to protect Assamese civilization from perceived threats.
Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma here on Saturday outright rejected the charges of opposition on Special Revision of electoral but asserted that his government will keep rattling the Miyas (the East Bengal origin Muslims of Assam).
Responding to charges of opposition of anomalies in the ongoing SR exercise in Assam ahead of the assembly election, the chief minister told reporters that there is no controversy over SR. Asking that has any notice beeb served to any Hindu or indigenous Assamese Muslim, he reiterated, “We will continue to disturb the “Miyas”, only to tame them down. If we don't do this, then they will dance over our heads.”
Mr Sarma said, “I have said this in past as well that we will keep troubling them. There is nothing to hide here. They should understand that Assamese people are resisting somewhere. If we stop poking them, then they will think that Assamese people are defeated.”
The chief minister admitted, “Hence, a few notices of SR will be served to them, a few eviction notices will also be served as notices from the border police.”
Stating, “We will keep doing this within the ambit of the law,” the chief minister said, “We are with the poor, be it Hindu or Muslim or the Miyas. But it is not acceptable if they want to finish our civilisation (the Assamese). So, these notices and disturbances will continue.”
Mr Sarma also targeted the opposition Congress party and its alliance partners saying that particularly Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and Akhil Gogoi are out to turn Assam into a Miyaland. He said that if Congress comes to power in Assam with Akhil Gogoi as the home minister, then Assam will be turned into a Miyaland.
“Assamese people are watching what Akhil Gogoi and Congress are doing, what they have said. They are the protectors of the Miyas and Assamese people know it very well. So they will not make mistakes,” said Mr Sarma.
Mr Sarma who arrived here on Saturday after attending the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, also announced that former General Secretary of All Assam Students Union (Aasu) Shankarjyoti Baruah, along with others, will join the BJP.
“They are all welcome to the party, but as freshers, they shouldn't expect a ticket for the assembly election this year. They should be involved in party work rather than involved in seeking an election ticket immediately,” said Mr Sarma.
