AP Chambers Seeks Better Int’l Air Link From Vij, Vizag, Tirupati
The AP Chambers also requested the Union government to initiate steps to introduce international flights to Tirupati, which is a world-renowned pilgrimage centre and home to several educational institutions and an electronics manufacturing park.
VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) has written to Union civil aviation minister K. Rammohan Naidu requesting the government to improve direct international connectivity from three major international airports, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati.
In its representation, AP Chambers’ president Potluri Bhaskara Rao and general secretary B. Raja Sekhar mentioned that, “Even though Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati airports have international status and adequate infrastructure to handle large aircrafts, these airports lack proper direct connectivity to major international destinations.
Vijayawada, a rapidly developing city, has seen a significant rise in economic activities, trade, and tourism. As business activity has picked up due to restarting of the Amaravati Capital City construction works and with the emergence of Amaravati as educational and healthcare hub, there is a substantial increase in air travel from Vijayawada airport. As Dubai is a connecting hub for many international destinations, the AP Chambers has been seeking for a direct flight between Vijayawada and Dubai for past 5 years.”
They said that “Similarly, we seek direct flight connectivity between Vijayawada and Singapore, which will help reduce travel time for international travellers to South East Asia”.
“We also request the Centre to improve international air connectivity from Visakhapatnam and Tirupati airports. To meet the increasing demand for international connectivity from Visakhapatnam, we seek direct flights to Dubai and other international destinations.”
The AP Chambers also requested the Union government to initiate steps to introduce international flights to Tirupati, which is a world-renowned pilgrimage centre and home to several educational institutions and an electronics manufacturing park.
Bhaskara Rao and Raja Sekhar stated, “We have been waiting for past 8 months for Dubai and Singapore connectivity from Vijayawada international airport. We hope the Union government will look into this and ensure the city has direct connectivity to these important international destinations.”
