New Delhi: Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand will be in New Delhi on Tuesday for talks with External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar.

Her visit comes amidst speculation that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney may be the chief guest for India’s Republic Day function in January 2027.

Announcing Ms Anand’s visit to India, Canada’s foreign ministry said she will travel to New Delhi and then to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 13 to October 16 to deepen bilateral relations and cooperation with these countries.

Her talks with Dr Jaishankar will focus on ways to advance collaboration in sectors such as trade, energy, people-to-people ties, security and defence cooperation. Canada said this will be the 11th meeting between Minister Anand and Mr Jaishankar since September 2025, reflecting sustained high-level engagement and a growing bilateral relationship.

Apart from government engagements, Ms Anand will participate in the Bloomberg New Economy Forum where she is expected to reinforce the importance of multilateral and plurilateral cooperation at a time of geopolitical uncertainty and highlight Canada as a reliable partner for India and the broader Indo-Pacific.
