New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday said political parties cannot win elections by opposing initiatives that have public support, remarking that it was beyond his capacity to make Congress leader Rahul Gandhi understand this logic.
Addressing a public gathering at Navi Vanzar village near Ahmedabad, Shah referred to a recent Lok Sabha debate in which Rahul Gandhi questioned why his party continued to lose elections. Shah said Gandhi should instead ask the people, adding that even Congress leaders had failed to explain this to him.
The senior BJP leader said the Congress would continue to face defeats and predicted losses for the party in the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. He also asserted that the BJP would retain power in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shah said the BJP’s electoral success stemmed from its alignment with public sentiment, alleging that the Congress had opposed initiatives widely supported by people, including the Ram temple, surgical strikes against terrorists, abrogation of Article 370, the Uniform Civil Code, action against triple talaq, and the campaign against illegal Bangladeshi infiltration.
“If you oppose the will of the people, how will you get votes,” Shah said, reiterating that this basic principle remained elusive to Rahul Gandhi.
