Bhopal: Amid allegations of poll rigging in the election to the post of president of Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress, BJP on Wednesday accused the Opposition party of ‘stealing its own votes’ to favour a particular candidate in the elections.

A strong section of youth Congress in Madhya Pradesh has questioned the process of election for the post of the president of the youth wing of the party in the state, held on November six, alleging that the election was massively rigged to stage-manage the election to favour a particular candidate.

The matter was taken to the notice of the national leadership of the youth Congress leading the latter to put on hold the results of the polls, a senior party functionary told this newspaper on Wednesday.

As per the counting of votes, Yash Ghanghoria, son of Jabalpur MLA and former minister Lakhan Ghanghoria, emerged frontrunner in the elections by polling 3,13,730 votes.

While Abhishek Parmar from Bhopal came second by securing 2,38,780 votes, Devendra Singh Dadu came third.

Mr. Parmar and Mr. Dadu have taken up the matter with the national in-charge Manish Sharma leading to holding back the results of the polls, the Congress leader said, unwilling to be quoted.

“There was overage voting, massive rigging in election and manipulations in counting of votes”, a youth Congress leader alleged, requesting not to be quoted.

“We have produced evidence of irregularities in the election to the Central leadership of the party”, he claimed.

Senior BJP leader and state minister Visvas Sarang on Wednesday took a dig at the Congress for allegedly indulging in vote theft to stage-manage the election of a candidate to the post.

“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been levelling baseless charges of vote theft against BJP. But his own party is involved not only in vote theft but also in stealing its own votes”, Mr. Sarang said.
