Kolkata: Top officers from the Eastern Command of the Indian Army inspected the line of defence at the border with Bangladesh in two North Eastern states, Tripura and Mizoram, on Friday amid fresh violence in the neighbouring country.

Led by Eastern Army Commander Lieutenant General R C Tiwari, the military team, which included Spear Corps Commander Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, also met the Border Security Force and Assam Rifles officials posted at the forward locations and took stock of the situation.

The Eastern Command (EC) posted on X-handle, “Lt Gen RC Tiwari, #ArmyCdrEC, alongwith Senior Military Officers, visited the Border Outpost at #Belonia in South #Tripura to review the situation along the Indo-Bangladesh border.”

It added, “#ArmyCdrEC interacted with the forward troops and lauded all ranks of #IndianArmy #AssamRifles and #BSF for their professionalism and high state of #OperationalReadiness.” Their next destination was Mizoram.

The EC stated, “Lt Gen RC Tiwari, #ArmyCdrEC, alongwith Senior Military Officers, visited the Company Operating Base of #AssamRifles and #BSF under #SpearCorps at #Parva, #Mizoram, to review the security situation along the Indo-Bangladesh Border. #ArmyCdrEC lauded the #AssamRifles and #BSF troops for their steadfastness, resilience and a high level of operational preparedness.”

Speculation is rife that the army is looking for land in Mizoram apparently to raise another military base in the east to boost defence at the border with Bangladesh after planning three garrisons– one each at Chopra in West Bengal, Kishanganj in Bihar and Bamunigaon in Assam– recently.
