AI Won’t Replace Most Jobs, But It Will Redefine Them: Fadnavis
He noted that the first industrial revolution began around 1740, followed by the second in 1860 and the third around 1950
Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said that nearly 75 per cent of jobs will change in nature because of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It does not mean jobs will disappear, but the skills required for those jobs will be completely different, he added.
“AI, semi-con and quantum computing are going to shape the future of this century. Technology is driving change across fields such as robotics, biotechnology and others; AI, in particular, is rapidly transforming everything,” Fadnavis said at the inauguration of the AI Centre of Competency powered by NVIDIA at Ramdeobaba University in Nagpur.
Citing a big tech expert on AI, Fadnavis claimed that in the next 1,000 days, the nature of 75 per cent jobs in the market will change. It does not mean that jobs will go, but their nature will change because of the advancement of AI, he added.
“Switzerland has developed a healthcare system designed to ensure that every child born there after the year 2000 lives for at least a hundred years. Life expectancy is rising in our country as well,” Fadnavis said.
In Maharashtra, the government has developed an AI-powered app called ‘Mahavistar.’ Through this app, farmers in the state can communicate with experts in their local dialects to discuss issues and seek solutions. Farmers can receive accurate advice and instructions simply by sharing a photograph of their crops. This is the remarkable power of AI, the CM stated.
Highlighting the pace of technological advancement, Fadnavis said the interval between industrial revolutions has narrowed dramatically over time.
He noted that the first industrial revolution began around 1740, followed by the second in 1860 and the third around 1950. By contrast, discussions around Industry 4.0 started only about 2010, gained momentum by 2016-17 and, within a decade, attention has shifted towards AI, deep technologies and frontier innovations, with conversations already emerging around a sixth industrial revolution, Fadnavis said.
