6 Rounds Fired in Berhampore Hours Before Mamata Banerjee's Arrival

Berhampore, May 5: A shootout involving at least six rounds occurred in Berhampore's Madhupur area on Sunday night, hours before Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit.
Three sources reported that a group of youths, including former Berhampore Trinamul Youth Congress president Mithu Jain, sustained injuries while at the Babulbona club around 11 PM. Another group of armed Trinamul Youth Congress workers allegedly started a verbal dispute, ransacked club furniture, fired six rounds from an improvised pistol, and attacked with the pistol butt. Police and locals rescued the injured, who were admitted to Murshidabad Medical College Hospital.
Jain alleged, "While we were chatting, they attacked us. We are all TMC, particularly TMYC workers. One ward TMYC president, Suman Chowdhury, was arrested. What message does this send before the Chief Minister's meeting in Murshidabad?" However, current Berhampore TMYC president Papai Ghosh claimed, "Mithu Jain and his followers are not TMYC workers but antisocial elements drinking inside the club. Our workers protested while decorating with flex." Berhampore police arrested two accused with one unlicensed pistol.
