New Delhi: The Centre has sanctioned 3,46,544 new houses for the two Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme for rural housing, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandrasekhar announced.

Addressing media persons at his office in Delhi on Tuesday, the Minister said that out of the fresh sanction, 2,25,788 houses have been allocated to Andhra Pradesh and 1,20,756 houses to Telangana. With this, the total number of houses allotted to both states after the NDA government came to power in 2024 has reached 5 lakh.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to allocate 5 crore houses to rural areas across the country. Between 2019-24, when the YS Jagan government was in power in AP, out of 1.78 lakh houses allocated to the state, only 42,000 (23%) were completed," he said. He added that after assuming office for the third time in 2024, PM Modi decided to allocate 2 crore houses across the country between 2024 and 2029.
Based on poverty-based recommendations by a Select Committee, 74,000 houses were given to AP and 79,000 to Telangana in the post-2024 allocation. As the construction of houses allocated during the previous government was not completed, AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu had earlier submitted a representation seeking more houses. Considering that Telangana did not take a single house from the Centre in the last five years, we have now decided to allocate 3.44 lakh houses to the two Telugu states combined out of the remaining 5-6 lakh houses left after allocation to all states.
