3-Day 'Bastar Tiranga Yatra' To Honour Fallen Jawans In Ex-Maoist Strongholds

Raipur: A three-day ‘Bastar Tiranga Yatra’, set to be launched on Wednesday in honour of the security personnel, who laid their lives while combating Leftwing Extremism in Chhattisgarh in the last four decades, is going to cover the former Naxal strongholds in south Bastar.

The yatra is scheduled to traverse the forested route in three districts, Narayanpur, Dantewada, and Bijapur, in south Bastar where major incidents of Naxal violences had taken place in the last four decades, officials said on Monday.

“The Bastar Tiranga Yatra aims at honouring the jawans who were martyred in anti-Naxal operations, besides integrating the tribal youths of Bastar with the nation building and inculcating them in patriotism”, officials said.

The yatra is scheduled to commence from headquarter town of Narayanpur on August 12 and end at Karregutta Hills, the last Maoist fort that has fallen earlier this year, on August 14.

The yatra will re-establish that Bastar is now completely free of Naxal menace, and peace has returned to the tribal region, officials said.

The yatra is also scheduled to cover Abujhmad area in Narayanpur district, once considered the Maoist capital in India.

Meanwhile, the tricolour is set to be hoisted for the first time in 90 villages in south Bastar, once considered Maoist stronghold, on the occasion of the Independence Day.
