14-Year-Old Boy Dies Of Electrocution In Delhi’s Uttam Nagar
Kaushal reportedly got stuck to an electrified iron pipe near a power pole, with locals alleging negligence and poor drainage in the area.
A 14-year-old boy, identified as Kaushal, died of electrocution in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area after coming into contact with an iron pipe attached to an electricity pole, according to police and local residents.
As soon as Kaushal came in contact with the pipe, he suffered an electric shock and became stuck to it. A woman sitting nearby witnessed the incident and raised an alarm, following which local residents rushed to the spot.
Residents used a wooden stick to separate the boy from the pipe. However, by the time Kaushal was taken to a hospital, he had died.
Kaushal was the only son of his parents and had a six-year-old younger sister. His family has alleged that negligence by the Delhi government and the electricity department led to his death and is demanding justice.
Local residents have also alleged that the area frequently gets waterlogged even after light rainfall, while sewage water remains accumulated in the lane even when there is no rain.
They claimed that had the lane not been flooded, Kaushal would not have needed to hold the iron pipe near the electricity pole while trying to prevent himself from falling.
Police are investigating the incident. According to the police, the exact cause of death will be established after the post-mortem report is received.
The incident has also triggered anger among local residents over the alleged absence of Uttam Nagar MLA Pawan Sharma and the local councillor. Residents alleged that neither visited the bereaved family following the incident.
Former Congress MLA Mukesh Sharma visited the family and blamed the local administration and the Delhi government for the boy’s death. He demanded that an FIR be registered against those responsible, including officials of the electricity department, and that adequate compensation be provided to the family.
Sharma also demanded that a murder case be registered against those found responsible for the boy’s death.
