10 Hardcore Maoists, Carrying Rs 33 Lakh Bounty, Surrender Along with Weapons in Sukma

Raipur: Ten hardcore Maoists, carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 33 lakh, on Friday surrendered along with weapons in Sukma under south Bastar in Chhattisgarh.
The surrendered Maoists included a platoon commander of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), two area committee members, two Platform Party Committee Members (PPCMs), and two members of Local Operational Squad (LOS).
Six of the surrendered Maoists are women.

As many as 1,514 Maoist cadres have surrendered in Bastar division comprising seven districts in the last 11 months, Bastar range inspector general of police P Sunderraj said.
Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai hailed the surrender of ten Maoists in Sukma, saying that ‘The rehabilitation of the ex-Maoists has opened a new path of social integration (in Bastar)’.
“The pledge to build a Naxal-free Chhattisgarh is no longer just an aspiration; it is becoming a rapidly unfolding reality”, he said and added that “The fight against Naxalism in the state has reached a critical and defining stage”.
He said that the surrender is evidence of a significant shift in Bastar, where the ideology of violence, fear and misguidance is weakening, while the path of development, trust and dialogue is growing stronger.
