All Moto branded handsets in 2016 will be equipped with on-board fingerprint scanners.

Mumbai: In a move to stay in line with modern day smartphone trends, all ‘Moto’ branded handsets in 2016 will be equipped with on-board fingerprint scanners, according to a Lenovo executive.

The message came shortly after the long-time existing ‘Motorola’ brand name was branched out into two categories— ‘Moto’ for high-end devices and ‘Vibe’ for budget ones.

Chen Xudong, Senior Vice President of Lenovo, made the announcement during an interview with a Chinese media outlet, according to Tech Radar.

In 2015, the company was unable to roll out the fingerprint scanning functionality along with any of its devices, but seemed confident that the scenario will change this year.

During the course of the interview, Xudong also revealed that all Moto branded handsets would feature at least 5-inch displays.

Also, chances are high that the company might lay off the low-budgeted Moto E, as the company will now roll out budgeted devices under its Vibe brand.

It was also revealed that only15 handsets will be released this year, which will be divided under the two different brand names.

Xudong also hinted that the Moto smartphone UI will also be changing, as the company is planning to merge the Vibe UI along with the stock Android, which is customarily seen on current Motorola handsets.
