THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For an artist who wants to evoke Kovalam, a few strokes of tall coconut palms leaning over a tranquil sea might be the first choice. Problem is, Goa has long before appropriated the image. Now, determined to give Kovalam an image, Kerala Tourism has set its sights on a structure that towers over the cluster of coconut trees: the light house.

The Responsible Tourism wing has employed artists to come up with a miniature of a light house. “No local craftsman has been able to come up with a satisfactory design. We have now asked an artist in Alappuzha who is known for his craftsmanship with coir to develop a model,” the official said.
