KOZHIKODE: For the students of Mohammed Abdurahman Memorial UP School, Parambilkadavu here, the life of tribal students of their age was something just seen in a documentary or a film.

But on Saturday, these students set off for a trip to experience and meet such students studying at Bavali Government UP School, Wayanad.

The major mission was to learn and experience the culture and tradition of tribal students and in return invite them to Kozhikode to give them the experience of city life.

Even the representatives of Kuruvatoor Grama Panchayath accompanied the students to meet the tribal students of Bavali.

Talking about the initiative, Rajeesh Kumar T, the school teacher said, “There are values and ethics of living followed by tribes which need to be taken seriously. While development has affected them, the fact that they can rejuvenate and conserve the environment in their own way has been overlooked,” he added.

“Our students will understand how the other children of their age lead a life of struggle and how distant they are from the development and technologies our students experience in the city,” he said.

“After our two-day trip here in Wayanad, we will invite these students to Kozhikode to give them an idea about city life. We feel that it will stimulate their thirst for learning”, Rajeesh pointed out.

Sharing the experience of meeting these tribal students, one of the students of Parabilkadavu said that many of their practices, customs and traditions which remained largely unknown to the outside world were vanishing. “We got a chance to see their tribal dance, music and other culture,” he added.
