The Luckiest Mother I've seen Lokesh grow so much from being a little boy to a passionate leader. I'm grateful to all the thoughtful things he still does and am happy about the heights he's reaching in being a responsible citizen. I am definitely the luckiest mother! Bhuvaneswari Nara

Today, we are reminded of George Washington’s quote, ‘There is no way that I would be the person that I am today without the sacrifice, motivation, and love from my mother’. On the occasion of Mother’s Day, we spoke to some mothers and their daughters about what they’ve learned from each other.

A definite Achiever
Brahmani says she’s a proud daughter, but I’m an even  prouder mother! She works more than how much a guy would, and as an entrepreneur, she is passionate about her motto — ‘Health and Happiness’. She’s a philanthropist, mother, daughter and a sister. I wanted her to achieve everything I missed out on, and she’s gone out there and done much more.

Made us Proud
Being a mother is the greatest achievement of my life. I am really proud of my son, Pullela Gopichand, the Chief National Coach for the Indian Badminton team. All the hard work that he has put in since childhood has borne fruit. While growing up, he would tell us that he is going to make us proud one day.

Women of Substance
My role as a mother has been the most important and fulfilling facet of my pluralistic identity. While I am, obviously, very proud of my children’s varied accomplishments, (Ulrika Krishnamurti is an upcoming actor in the UK and Aria is a stylist/blogger/fashion consultant in Hyderabad), I am most rewarded by who they have become — confident, kind, principled and hardworking women of substance. It fascinates me that at this juncture in my life, there is so much that I learn from them.
— Dr Kiran Krishnamurti

Certainly Blessed
I am blessed to have P.V. Sindhu in my life. We, as parents, have always encouraged her in whatever she wanted to do. Her hard work has paid off in the form of an Olympic medal. Since her early years, she has been very committed towards the game. I am fortunate to have her as a daughter.

Daughters speak

 Epitome of Love
My mom is the source of strength, not only for me, but the entire family. I particularly admire her for her patience and balanced approach towards any issue. She has always taught me to be upright, truthful and to never lose self-respect. She insists that I love my mother-in-law just as much as I love her and has always told me how important it is for a woman to maintain peace within the house, not by force but with love.
— TRS MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha on her mother K. Shobha

No Pressure, Only Encouragement
My mother has been my strength throughout my life. There is a lot that I’ve learnt form her, like  patience and courage. She is the one person who has never pressurised me for anything, but has always encouraged me in life. What I am today is definitely because of her.
— Swati Lakra, Addl Commissioner of
Police (crimes)
on her mother Lucy Lakra.
