Shobhaa De is just not right
Novelist's nasty tweet against Indian athletes at Rio Olympics annoyed many who hit back at her.
While the entire nation is rooting for the largest ever Indian contingent at the Rio Olympics, one person has managed to upset even those she praised, with an audacious comment.
Shobhaa De is once again making news for all the wrong reasons. Expressing her disappointment, the novelist recently tweeted, “Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat wapas aao. What a waste of money and opportunity.” And added in the next tweet, “Only hope? Dependable Abhinav Bindra. Aim for gold, champion!”
To which Abhinav Bindra responded: “@DeShobhaa that’s a tad unfair. You should be proud of your athletes perusing human excellence against the whole world.”
Actress Gul Panag added to Abhinav’s response saying, “And do so despite of and in spite of there being no infra & institutional support, and no sporting culture”.
Abhishek Bachchan too made sure he was heard, the actor tweeted, “Yes, winning is the goal. But representing your country at the Olympics is a HUGE deal too regardless of the results. Proud of r athletes.”
