A world class hospital

Dr Nageshwar Reddy’s — Asian Institute of Gastroentrology — is one of the best in the world. Dr Reddy has bigger dreams for the coming decade

In 2019 we operationalised the world’s largest gastrointestinal hospital in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. Our research team published a remarkable 100 papers, including findings on the techniques of creating an artificial liver. We want to continue this work into 2020 so that artificial organs grown in the laboratory can replace human organs in transplantation procedures. We are also training the next generation of specialist doctors in this field, in view of the fact that there are only just over 1,000 qualified gastroenterologists in the country.

Safe air travels in 2020
2019 was a very stressful year for the CISF Airport sector. Starting from the Pulwama attack and the tension that followed, the General elections, article 370, Ayodhya etc, meant two types of stress on airport security — long periods of red alerts as airports are always prime targets for terrorists! I was touring for almost 90 days out of 365 during the year, checking out alertness, passing instructions and inspecting. Air passenger traffic grew by 15% in 2019 — this adds load to the already stressed out infrastructure.  CISF which is now deployed at 61 out of 101 airports, may be deployed in more airports including Jammu-Srinagar-Leh.

2020 will be spent in making the airport security CISF more dynamic and active in its anti terror and anti sabotage aspects. Will improve technical and soft skills of those deployed in anti hijacking duty of frisking and screening through advanced training courses.

In step with heritage
2019 was a momentous year in my life, since I received the National Sangeet Natak Akademi award, the highest national honour conferred on practicing artistes and gurus. Next year, I am looking forward to launching an outreach programme to increase the awareness of our rich cultural heritage through the medium of Kuchipudi dance and to choreographing another ballet of topical interest, with a relevant message to society.

Plan for a new winery
2019 was a very interesting and challenging year for ASAV Wines. We are proud to announce that the company completed three fruitful years in December 2019. My journey from 1997 till date from a sales representative to zonal manager to founder of my own company has been one of real hard work and struggle. We have grown on an average of 147% every year for the last three years. To mark this occasion, we have launched a new brand, The Asav Cabernet Shiraz, which has received a great response from sommeliers as well as wine connoisseurs.

I look forward to 2020 with great excitement as I want to do much more for the brand as well as for society. Also, depending on the government policies and support, we are looking at setting up a winery in Hyderabad which will generate employment for local youth.

Jobs scenario will change
Constant investment in wellness of body and mind, and ensuring I honour the commitment to provide employment opportunities to as many young people as possible on one hand and enable growth and scalability of employers on the other, will continue to be my focus in the new year.

In the decade gone by, the adoption of technology and digitization was a significant development. In the next decade, rapid formalisation of the labour force, large-scale digitalisation and technology advancements will transform existing jobs and create new ones.

My New Year wish is for a change in the narrative from size of workforce to productivity, and a bold yet compassionate India.
