Adventure thrills during travel

Many Bengalureans are combining their holidays with an experience to make the most of their trips.

Want to learn Muay Thai from a professional? or Learn how to cook the perfect plate of Meatballs and Spaghetti from an Italian grandmother? or Even learn the history of Warli Art from a traditional artiste. These days, people are into offbeat experiences. While traveling, they like to invest in experiences. A study was conducted by Thrillophilia on 10,000 travellers and 1,800 travel partners. It revealed that the demand for activities and local experiences has grown by 178 percent over the past three years. We talk to people in the city and find out what they did on their travels.

Arjun Nair, a DJ soaked in all of the art and crafts while in Berlin. “Europe has some of the best walking tours. I got to see different kinds of street art, stickers, graffiti and to some of Berlin’s best-known street artists. You will also see Berlin’s most beloved (and largest) piece of street art, the East Side Gallery,” he shares adding that the government keeps the art scene alive by allowing artists to paint on certain walls.

Thailand is a land that is filled to the brim with culture. On her visit there, Amrapali Shinde a singer chose to indulge in an offbeat experience. She adds, “I was fascinated by the music which is said to be more like meditation. This place is blessed with some of the most beautiful temples. While I was there, I went for a performance by people who played Chakhe and Saw Sam Sai which are traditional instruments that were found in these temples. I also got a Sak Yunt done which is a traditional Thai tattoo.”

Sourabh Rao who works for the Centre of Wildlife Studies shares her experience at Kuppali which is the birthplace of Kuvempu. She says, “Being a huge literature buff, Kuppali was an invigorating experience. I got to visit Kuvempu’s family home and learnt how he lived. I also visited Kavishyla which is a short walk from his home. Kuvempu used to go them either alone or with other writers.”

Bengaluru-based Anjali Rao  a finalist for Mrs India Earth 2019 who had seen the New York skyline on through movies made it a reality when she visited the city.
“I made it a point to steer clear from the usual stuff., Rather I went on a historical tour of Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. I got to learn about New York’s early immigrants and discovered the beacon of liberty. It felt great because I knew the history in bits and pieces, but understood the rich history when I was there,” she concludes.
