Hyderabad: A few lines can suggest a face, capture a landscape or set an imagined creature in motion. That ability to turn a simple mark into something full of life is at the heart of Beyond Black & White – Season 2, opening at Iconart Gallery, Banjara Hills, on October 30, 2026.

Bringing together Sivaji Tallavajhula, Raju Epuri, Shankar Pamarthy, Rajesh Nagulakonda, Srinivasa Ram Makineedi and Moshe Dayan, the exhibition invites viewers to rediscover the pleasure of looking closely at drawings. Film director Sekhar Kammula will attend the inauguration at 5.30 pm as Chief Guest. The show continues until November 8.
Following last year’s Between Black & White, the second edition expands the conversation with touches of colour while keeping drawing at its centre. Fine, deliberate lines meet bold, spontaneous gestures; recognisable forms move towards abstraction; and contrasts of light and shade create depth, rhythm and emotion.
For these six artists, drawing is both a foundation of practice and a complete expression in itself. Their backgrounds in painting, illustration, cartooning and graphic storytelling bring different sensibilities to a shared pursuit: discovering how much a line can communicate.
Sivaji Tallavajhula’s lyrical compositions draw on the relationship between humans and nature. With over three decades of practice, he brings an economy of line and a tenderness that make his subjects immediately approachable.
Raju Epuri’s nearly four decades as an artist and illustrator find expression in powerful lines, symbolism and carefully balanced compositions. His willingness to work on surfaces ranging from delicate tissue paper to discarded cardboard reflects an instinct to create wherever possibility presents itself.
Shankar Pamarthy brings the observational sharpness of a political cartoonist to a practice encompassing portraiture, satire and surreal imagery. His interest in people and their contradictions is matched by a continuing appetite for new techniques and forms.
Comic book illustrator Rajesh Nagulakonda brings the energy of visual storytelling to fluid, poetic drawings. His experience across graphic novels, picture books and other visual media informs compositions that move between realism and subtle abstraction.
For self-taught artist Srinivasa Ram Makineedi, drawing offers room for intuitive exploration. His experimental approach produces bold, unrestrained lines and an adventurous treatment of form.
Moshe Dayan, known for his evocative watercolours, approaches drawing with a meditative sensibility. His engagement with Rishi Valley and Hampi informs a practice attentive to landscape, structure and the feelings a place can evoke.
Together, the artists offer six ways of seeing through a medium familiar to anyone who has ever put pen to paper. The exhibition encourages visitors to follow a line, notice a detail and experience the imagination that unfolds from it.
