Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will launch the third phase of Haritha Haram in Karimnagar, where one lakh saplings will be planted to mark the launch of the programme.

For the first time, seed balls will be dropped from helicopters on open forest land and hill areas to improve green cover. Mr Rao reviewed with officials implementation of the third phase of Haritha Haram. He asked officials to complete all the arrangements by the weekend and ensure 40 crore saplings are kept ready in nurseries for plantation.

Chief secretary S.P. Singh on Monday held a video conference with district collectors to review the arrangements for the drive. He directed them to ensure the planting of 40 crore saplings in phases over four months and draw up district-wise targets to meet the target.

Mr Singh said effective measures should be taken to safeguard the saplings and survival rate should improve over the previous two years. He asked officials to hold cultural programmes to create awareness about the plantation drive.
