No sex after menopause fused woman's labia together
The woman had reportedly given birth to two children and had no history of pelvic trauma or infection.
It sounds unreal, but a woman's labia was fused together from having no sex after menopause, The Sun reported.
The unnamed woman from Japan, had to pee from a 'pinhole', the report revealed. She had a build-up of urine in her vagina. However, she claims to have never suffered pain or discomfort and didn't even see a doctor about it.
The 76-year-old’s condition only became known after a PET scan at Tohoku University Hospital for her oesophageal cancer spotted it. The condition is called vaginal atrophy.
"Inspection of her external genitalia showed that her clitoris was normal in size, and the labia majora and anus were visualised however, the urethral meatus and vagina orifice were not seen on careful inspection of her vulva,” the report in the Journal of Medical Case Reports stated.
What's more remarkable, is that she had given birth naturally to two children and had no history of infection or pelvic trauma. They are common causes of the condition.
Lack of the female sex hormone oestrogen could most likely be the cause. Experts believe it would have been detected sooner if the woman was sexually active.
A catheter was inserted in her to drain the excess urine and oestrogen cream was applied to restore her vagina.
While it is not yet known what the condition is caused by, inflammation around the vagina could be a potential cause.
