A new study has found anxiety could weaken a woman's bones, the Daily Mail reported.

With age and experience of menopause, women start to rapidly lose bone density. This makes the bones more fragile and could lead to osteoporosis.

Post-menopausal plunge of estrogen is the reason more women develop osteoporosis than men, as it decreases bone mass.

Anxiety and stress can have measurable and serious effects on the body.

"Our opinion is that anxious women are more likely to engage in poor health behaviours, such as smoking or a poor diet," study author Dr Antonio Catalano told MedicalXpress.

Adding, "Moreover, the negative effects of stress hormones on bone status may be considered as also enhancing fracture risk."

However, hormone therapy could help ease symptoms of menopause and reduce stress. This could also result in preserving bone density.
