VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh State Minority Commission chairman Dr K. Iqbal Ahmed Khan on Sunday asked students to avoid getting addicted to their mobile phones or other electronic gadgets, but use them to acquire knowledge and improve their studies.

Inaugurating the 8th Annual Qur'an Memorisation Competition organised by the United Forum for Qur'anic Studies in Vijayawada, Dr Ahmed Khan expressed concern over youth getting addicted to electronic devices for extraneous reasons than increasing their knowledge.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind state president Rafiq Ahmed regretted that children are browsing social media or playing games on their phones/tabs on the pretext of attending online classes. He wanted parents to show their children the divine path and encourage recitation of the Quran, which can help them overcome their phone addiction.

In the Qur'an Memorisation Competition, the first prize of ₹20,000 cash, mementoes and certificates went to each of G. Nousha Khair, P. Mohammad Raihan and Abdul Hashim Raihan. Shamikha Shurfa, Mohammad Ayesha Firdous and A. Habeebunnisa got the second prize of ₹15,000 each. The third prize of ₹10,000 each went to S.M. Ali, Sk. Maliha Tabassum and Hafsa.

A memento, school bag, steel water bottle and certificate were presented to all participants in the Qur'an Memorisation Competition.
