KOZHIKODE: It is a new lease of life for M. Ajanya, the first survivor of the deadly virus Nipah, who returned home on Monday after  25 days at Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital.  She was welcomed by her college and school friends with flowers and sweets at the entrance of the hospital. She reached her house at Cheliya near Koyilandy by 4 p.m.  where she was greeted by her relatives and neighbours. But as the doctors had instructed her to avoid visitors, they did not stay  for long.

Ajanya expressed her happiness at seeing her best friends after almost a month. "I was badly missing my college and hostel  all these days.        I will rejoin the college after the doctors permit me. I have agreed to follow all their instructions as my only wish was to study again," she said.  She is a second-year nursing student at Beach General Hospital.  The second survivor,  Ubeesh from Malappuram, will be discharged  on June 14 after a few confirmation medical tests.   Ubeesh,  an employee of Mahindra Finance, said  he was worried how the people around him would react.

"I hope the people will understand my condition. The media and doctors have been very helpful," he said.  MCH superintendent Dr Ajith Kumar said that   the  survivors would be given a checkup after  one month.  "After  one week of  complete rest, they can resume their studies and work.  We have  asked them to contact the hospital if they  feel any discomfort," he added.
