ADILABAD: Doctors of erstwhile Adilabad district feel swine flu cases are being witnessed among a number of patients being admitted to government and private hospitals in the region. They warn against providing Covid-19 treatment to such patients without a proper diagnosis.

Medical experts say officials are not following the guidelines laid down by ICMR as far as treating Covid patients is concerned.

Sources say patients suffering from swine flu and uncontrolled fever are being admitted to private hospitals in more numbers. But they are not being reported to the health department or the state government. Patients with such symptoms are also being admitted to RIMS, Adilabad.

Atram Kavitha, 15, of Jendaguda village in Utnoor mandal studying in KGBV residential school in Utnoor died while undergoing treatment at RIMS on Tuesday. Hostel staff say two days prior to her death, she had been shifted to RIMS. Her parents allege had she been properly diagnosed and given due treatment, her life could have been saved.

Doctors emphasise that medical and health department has to start looking at cases from the swine flu angle too, instead of just admitting patients as those suffering from Covid.

Medical experts say TB cases are also increasing abnormally in Adilabad district as there is no proper tracking system. Officials are not following the Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCB) guidelines as far as treating TB patients is concerned.
