Certain practices may help people gain relief from pain and fatigue but they can also have severe side effects. Although neck cracking carried out by chiropractors does ease problems such as headaches, it isn’t entirely safe.

The practice of neck cracking has been linked to strokes in the past and now experts are warning it may cause problems with vision and bleeding inside the eye. A journal also reported the case of a woman who suffered spots in her vision after visiting a chiropractor.

High velocity neck manipulation where joints are moved apart had caused haemorrhages in her eye. She had made an appointment to ease headaches and the spots appeared the very next day after the treatment.

The thrusts performed during neck cracking can cause damage to blood vessels in the retina. An expert called chiropractic treatments too dangerous and not effective enough to be recommended for any condition.
