Hyderabad: A woman, once known for her active lifestyle, had been suffering from a distressing medical condition that made even stepping out of her home difficult. She experienced involuntary urine leakage while laughing, coughing, bending, or making even slight movements a condition medically termed Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI).Due to the severity of her symptoms, she had to rely on adult diapers. Despite consulting multiple doctors, her condition remained unresolved until she visited KIMS Cuddles Hospital in Secunderabad.

At KIMS Cuddles, she received treatment under the care of Consultant Urogynecologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon, Dr. N. Bindu Priya. Explaining the case, Dr. Bindu Priya said, “We performed a thorough evaluation and found that the patient had previously undergone a hysterectomy and was suffering from chronic pelvic pain. In most cases, SUI is managed by inserting a synthetic mesh sling. However, due to her long-standing pain, placing a mesh was not advisable.”
After discussing all treatment options with the patient, the team decided to proceed with an autologous rectus fascial sling surgery a procedure in which a sling is created using the patient’s own tissue. The surgery was performed successfully.
Post-operatively, the patient experienced difficulty in passing urine. Further investigations revealed that this was not due to the sling being too tight, but rather due to insufficient relaxation of the pelvic muscles. To address this, a combination of medications and physiotherapy was prescribed to improve bladder function. The patient responded well to this multidisciplinary approach, and her SUI symptoms were completely resolved.
Even during a later episode of severe flu (cold and cough ) that would typically worsen SUI there was no urine leakage. This brought significant relief to the patient and improved her confidence and quality of life.

Dr. Bindu Priya emphasized that in such complex cases, surgical treatment alone is not sufficient. A collaborative approach involving specialists from various departments, along with appropriate follow-up care, is critical to achieving complete recovery. The availability of expert multidisciplinary support at KIMS Hospitals played a vital role in successfully managing this case.
The patient and her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Bindu Priya and the entire KIMS Cuddles team for resolving a condition that had significantly impacted her life and restoring her confidence through a complete and lasting solution.
