Tribute To Mothers' Lifesaving Sacrifice
The heartfelt event brought together doctors, patients, and families to celebrate the act of extraordinary courage and love
Hyderabad:A heartwarming event titled Second Life, by Mom was held on Saturday at a private hospital to honour 12 courageous mothers who donated a kidney to their children. The ceremony, which took place ahead of Mother’s Day on Sunday, celebrated these mothers' extraordinary sacrifices and love.
During the event, the mothers shared their deeply personal experiences with Deccan Chronicle, revealing their unwavering commitment to their children’s well-being. Most of the donors expressed their readiness to make any sacrifice necessary to ensure their children’s health.
"I want my son to live a healthy life. I was and am ready to do anything to save his life," said one of the mothers. Another mother shared her emotional journey, saying, “Six months after the surgery, I visited Tirumala to seek blessings. I took the Alipiri Mettu route and then went to Arunachalam in Tamil Nadu.”
The event brought together kidney transplant recipients, their families, medical professionals and the medical community, creating an atmosphere filled with emotion and gratitude. Each recipient who took the stage wasn’t just a survivor but a living testimony to a mother’s unmatched courage.
Family members and donors spoke of their painful yet hopeful journeys—from fear and helplessness to healing and recovery, all made possible by the selfless act of kidney donation. “I was 56 when I donated a kidney to my daughter. Now I am 60, and both of us are healthy,” shared another mother, one of the honorees of the day.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. C. Mallikarjuna, managing director and chief consultant urologist at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology, highlighted the profound impact of these mothers' sacrifices. “These mothers went beyond nurturing—they gave their children a second chance at life. Today, we honour that incredible act of love and sacrifice,” he noted.
