Kareena kept her neck line simple and hair sleeked back while wearing Nitya Arora's silk tassel earrings

Going by the raging trends of the season, it comes a little surprise to note how tassel earrings are having a major fashion moment. Superstar and Bengaluru girl, Deepika Padukone slayed it in a chic green number at an EMA Awards or better yet, yummy mummy Kareena Kapoor Khan who slayed the tassel vibe, and channelled her inner boho diva with just the right amount of sass at buddy Rujuta Diwekar’s recent book launch in those enviable turquoise tassels.

Pointing out how wearing tops with a fussy neckline will detract the attention from the accessories, designer Sanchita Ajjampur opines, “When wearing multi-coloured tassels, best to keep tops to plain colours so the pieces don’t compete with each other. If you are going for statement earrings, don’t wear necklaces and add jewellery on your hands or embellished footwear.” City-based stylist and fashion blogger, Nishka Guleria Naidu believes when it comes to styling, long tassel earrings are high-drama and quite logically become the center of your look.

“I would suggest keeping your hair tight to your face in either a slick pony or bun so that the earrings frame your face. However, if you aren’t comfortable with your hair being tucked away then push your hair to one side, fasten it with a few clips and add-on some volumising hair spray to create a dramatic look. When it comes to colours, go for tassels in bright hues and jewelled tones, suggest experts,” she adds. “While putting a look together go for cold-shoulders, deep v-necks, and strappy necklines. And choose colours which complement the tassels so that they continue to remain the focus of your look. The only other accessory you’re going to need along with the tassel earrings is probably just a watch or a few rings – pick either not both,” advises Nishka.

Hinting at one of the biggest blunders women commit while sporting the look, fashion guru Prasad Bidapa concludes by stating, “It’s high time  women pay attention to details. Especially while wearing such quirky accoutrements. They need to comb the tassels out to  avoid that messed up look!”

Do it yourself
Sweeping statements aka the tassel earrings are all the rage this season. Why not DIY?
‘Yarn’ good!

You’ll need: pre-made tassels, ear hooks and pliers. Open the loop on the ear hook using the pliers and attach it to jump ring on the top of the tassel. If you don’t  have it readymade, just loop a piece of yarn around the jump ring, thread on a few beads, and then tie the ends around 15 strands of 4” yarn. Use another piece of yarn or gold thread to tie around the top of the tassel and add your ear hook.
