One look at the rising sun or the blue water or even a bright flower will instantly lift the mood and brighten a dull day. This season is all about bright and vibrant colours. Designers at the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week were not shying away from incorporating such colours into their collections. The best part about this trend is that there is a whole range colours to choose from the palette and it includes neons as well.

Designer Prerana Sarkar shares, “Starting off in the 80s, this trend has come back many times. This season I have seen designers experimenting with neon hues that gave a very distinguished look which was very feminine. These colours have the ability to add intrigue to your style.”

Fashion these days is all about having fun and feeling celebrated. Designer Pooja Raghavendra says, “Vibrant colours instantly pop up the mood and makes the wearer feel fun and celebrated.” When working with bright colours, one shouldn’t over play it. Designer Prachita Devi  says, “A brightly coloured blouse can be tonned down with deep-blue jeans. You can really colour block your outfits well with this trend.” India is know for its colourful outfits. Pooja suggests, “A brightly coloured high-waisted pant paired with a bustier top and a long brocade or kali jacket works well. You can try bright ink blue, orange and purple.”

She further suggests that one can experiment with new shades.  Says Pooja, “Don’t be shy to experiment. But it is really important that one mustn’t go overboard. Stick to a maximum of three colours per outfit.” Since this look is already bright, bold and in your face, tone down the accessories. Prachita adds, “If your wearing a knee length dress, a slim metallic belt will work wonders. Gold, I think compliments these colours very well. Therefore opt for gold jewellery instead of oxidised ones as it makes the outfit look dull.

Adding to this Prerana says, “While wearing neon coloured dresses, heavy jewellery is a no-no. Wear a crystal neckpiece and earrings. Keep the lips natural and add a smokey effect to your eye makeup to give a sense of mystery. Always wear bright coloured stilettos or heels in a contrasting colour.” As for the type of occasions one can wear this trend too, “The colours that are trending this season are reds, pinks and orange. Since its the festive season, one can wear it for Navratri, Diwali, cocktail parties etc,” adds Pooja.
