Given that sunlight is the primary cause of skin cancer, it is essential to continue using good skin care techniques. Applying sunscreen is one of the most important steps in preventing skin cancer.

The dermatologist and founder of Glow — Skin, Wellness and Beauty, Dr. Varshini Reddy, has shared a variety of viewpoints on sunscreen. The first two forms of sunscreen are the physical and chemical sunscreens, which have various ingredients and formulations.

The physical spectrum consists of Zinc Oxide and Titanium dioxide that functions as a layer and covers the skin to block UV rays from penetrating deeply. The skin absorbs the chemical spectrum, preventing UV rays from causing skin damage. People with sensitive skin especially one with red skin avoid the chemical sunscreen in order to prevent chemical reactions.

Dr. Varshini goes further on the topic by saying that different sunscreens have different parameters based on the type of skin a person has. For individuals with oily skin, matte sunscreens are always preferred, while those with dry skin choose creamy moisturising sunscreens.

The Indians generally contain more melanin in their body compared to that of caucasians giving Indians an impression that they are not prone to skin cancers, but regardless it is important that no matter the kind or colour of skin, daily application of sunscreen is necessary.

Less frequently, people are unaware of the criteria used to select and apply sunscreen. Before purchasing or using a sunscreen, it is essential to consider the composition, the SPF, and the PA+++ rating. It is believed that sunscreens with SPF levels greater than 30 are more effective.

The amount of UV A rays that can be impeded is indicated by the value PA+++, which is used by Asian sunscreen products. Applying sunscreen should come last in the skin care process, 15 to 20 minutes before going outside in the sun. Additionally, it is crucial that people reapply sunscreen every two to three hours. People can use a stick, powder, or spray sunscreen for reapplication.

She says that as much as it is important for the adults it is also vital that children above one year apply sunscreens. Considering the amount of usage of sunscreens, Indians prefer the Korean and Japanese sunscreens due to the compatibility with the composition, texture and formula.

According to the change in the seasons one can also change the sunscreens. For example in summer most of them do not like a filmy layer of skin hence they prefer something more light or matte sunscreen. In winter the skin gets dry and thereby people apply sunscreens that last long and are creamy.

Many receive treatment for pigmentation, which was brought on by not using sunscreens carefully. The skin becomes sensitive even when patients have laser treatments. Applying sunscreen is the only way to shield the skin.
