Over the years, fashion has gotten the ability of turning a trend on its head while still keeping it eye-catching. The humble ethnic lehenga that was exclusively worn during weddings, festival and various other ocassions, has been been sported as a casual look by Bollywood actresses like Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt etc.

Like so many other trends before, this trend to can be easily categorised into a blend of Indian and western cultures. Designer Reshma Kunhi says, “It gives out a sort of indo-western look that is perfect for women who are more comfortable with western outfits. This very fusion look is both contemporary and modern, and it is fresh twist from an age-old choli and dupatta which people are not very comfortable with.”

Giving us a contrasting opinion, desginer Nagashree says, “I feel that this trend is only a fad that will stay for a while and then die.” Having said that, it is so versatile that one can  style it in countless ways. Designer Deepta Raghunath says, “There are mutiple ways one can style this trend. Pair a ghagra with a denim and a tank top which can tucked in to give a bohemian look or the skirt could be worn with a formal collared shirt tucked in to give that edgy absolute chic look.” Keeping it subtle and minimal is also one way of nailing this trend. “You could pair a plain white shirt with your lehenga skirt and make it look casual,” Nagashree adds. What’s the use of sporting a trend when you can’t play and experiment with it? Reshma adds, “Now-a-days, people are sporting 3/4th lehengas well in a brocade banarasi material that has weave but no work. I would love to wear this skirt with a crisp white shirt.”

While working with this trend, its important to keep a few things in mind. She goes to add, “I think body-type is very important. If you have a shorter neck, open up two button as it give a illusion of a longer neck. For people who are small and petite, try using colours from the same family and avoid colour blocking.” No look is complete with out the perfect accessories. Deepta adds, “This trend could be accessorised well with either open  hair with hair accessories or even chunky abstract earrings would do it all.”
