FLORAL is the new way

Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma set the tone for this trend when she sported a floral lehenga for her Tuscan wedding. The floral lehenga is like a breath of fresh air after being weighed down by the heavy lehengas. It has been sported by stars like Soha Ali Khan, Nargis Fakri, Bipasha Basu and more. The floral lehengas is sure to make you look eye catching when paired with capes, crop tops and more.

It is time to get rid of those heavy and over worked lehengas and bring on the floral lehengas as the buzz is that they are here to stay! Designer Deepta Raghunath says, “They have the ability to break the monotony of the usual worked lehengas and worked blouses. With a lot of women looking for comfort over style, floral lehengas are the best as they are mostly in crepe or silks with no added work or detailing on it”. This trend can be versatile as you make it to be. “I feel the floral element of the lehenga comes out only when it paired with a solid colour. A powder blue floral lehenga can be paired with a solid colour crop top. To add edge to this outfit a floral breezy cape also can be added. Pair them with heavy kundan earring and your good to go”, says designer Abhilash Surrendran. The best part of floral lehengas is that they can be styled both in a traditional as well as in a modern and contemporary way. “A halter encrusted choli can be paired with a floral lehenga with a duppatta and crystal belt to adorn the waist and mogra flowers for the hair”, suggests designer Anjali Sharma.

The thrill of trying out a new trend tends to make one go overboard with. She goes on to says, “When floral added to both the top and the bottom, it becomes a very busy look to carry. Very few people can carry it off. Also one should be very careful while selecting prints. Bigger prints tend to make you look bulky and wide. Stick to smaller to medium subtle blended prints”. Since it is a very busy print, accessories can be more toned down. Deepa adds, “You can accessorise the lehengas with oxidised silver jhumkas with meenakari work or even a head chain or also lots of charm bracelets and keep the neck bare”. The word for this season is easy-breezy. “You can try lehengas in organza, mull, georgette, raw- provided that it looks breezy, silk and cotton”, suggests Anjali. Abhilash suggests the colours the one can try out this season are powder blue, green, lilacs and any of the pastel colours.
