NGT Directs UP PCB To Ensure Action Against Waste Dumping In Noida Wetlands

New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) to ensure that the Noida Authority takes prompt action against the illegal dumping of municipal waste and construction debris in the city's wetlands. The green body was hearing a plea regarding environmental violations in Noida when the petitioner mentioned that he had filed detailed representations dated July 30, 2025 and July 10, 2026 to the Noida Authority against dumping of municipal solid waste and construction debris in and around the in-situ wetlands at Sectors 137 and 49 but to no avail.

In an order dated July 24, made available on Friday, a bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Afroz Ahmad said, "Member Secretary, UPPCB is directed to ensure that the Noida Authority takes appropriate action on the above representations, failing which the needful will be done by the UPPCB."

During the proceedings, the counsel for the Noida Authority assured the tribunal that remedial action would be taken if provided with copies of the complaints.

The tribunal also took note of submissions made by the UPPCB's counsel regarding pending proceedings in the Supreme Court.

The advocate informed the tribunal that the top court has constituted a high-level committee, headed by the Union home secretary, to prepare a comprehensive "Yamuna Action Plan" within eight weeks.

The matter has been posted to October 7 for further proceedings.
