HYDERABAD: The state government warned pollution-causing industries located in Katedan Industrial Area under GHMC limits that it will cancel their land allotments if they fail to shift beyond Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits within six months.

The TS Industrial and Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) had allotted lands to these pollution-causing iron and steel industries at Rakamcheral Industrial Park in Vikarabad to enable them to move out of city limits.

TSIIC chairman Gyadari Balamallu on Monday visited the industrial park in Vikarabad along with officials. Later, he said that the state government was serious about shifting all such pollution-causing industries to the outskirts as per High Court orders. In order to control pollution in the city, the government has developed a special industrial park in Vikarabad and allotted lands to these industries.

"The decision to shift pollution-causing industries from the city was taken in 2012 by the then state government, which, however, could not implement it. The Telangana government has expedited measures to shift these industries. Talks were held with managements of industries on the need to shift their units. They agreed to oblige after TSIIC allotted lands in Vikarabad. But even after repeated reminders and notices, they did not shift. This is the final warning to them. The government will cancel their land allotments and appropriate action will be taken on pollution-causing industries in the city," Balamallu said, while speaking to the media in Vikarabad.

He assured to develop a general industrial park in Vikarabad with all amenities so that not only iron and steel industries but even other industries could function from the park.

Balamallu said notices were issued to 20 iron and steel industries in Katedan. "TSIIC has created all infrastructure facilities at Vikarabad industrial park where four new iron and steel industries have already set up operations. There is no valid reason for units in Katedan to delay any further," he added.
