Divyanka Tripathi is celebrated in the entertainment world, and she was recently in Delhi to unveil the ‘Make Space for Life’ campaign. Although one of the city’s famous power cuts hit the venue and there was little backup generators could do, the Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actress had a heart-to-heart with us, in which she gave us a sneak-peek into how things are like at the home she shares with actor-husband Vivek Dahiya. There’s also a new house in the making.

What does home mean to you?
Home is an integral and essential in each person’s life. It acts as a de-stressing place after a tiring day. It is also a space where we badly want to come back to.

What for you is the ideal home ambience?
If you home is boring, messy, or if while you are at home you keep on thinking about going to a resort, then there’s definitely something lacking. Ideally, even if you have a small space, you can turn it into a multifunctional and conventional area using your creativity. Sometimes, investment goes a little on the higher side. But, if we look at things from a creative point of view, we can create a lot of interior items and elements by ourselves.

Tell us about your new home.
In our new home (which is in more than halfway to completion), we have made sure that wardrobe spaces are enough. We keep running around, every other day there is some new activity, press conference, or a sudden invitation that you can’t avoid, so storage space is a must in every actor’s personal home space.
We both agree that a light-coloured interior will definitely work for our home. I don’t like to be surrounded by bright and crazy colours. A peaceful home space is what we are working towards. My house should be multifunctional at any cost.  Though we have not reached the stage where we can think about furniture, I want a room to act as a gym, dance-rehearsing space, as well as a bedroom. We are still trying to create that space.  We’ve got one extra room and we want to make the most of it. Maybe I’ll arrange a cabinet and store my gym equipment there, and get a drop-down bed.

Have you ever quarrelled with Vivek over household chores or other home elements?
No, not exactly a jhagraa (quarrel). Vivek is like a channel and I’m like a
creator. The channel has to pass everything. Whenever I come up with any idea, I do all the homework before approaching him.

If I go to him with one plan, he will definitely reject it. I even do a lot of drawing and sketching. Thankfully, when we come to deciding anything, we strike a proper balance. I trust his judgement the most.
